Kindergarten

Building the Foundation for a Life of Learning

Kindergarten forms the foundation for a child's school experience. This first critical year opens the doors to the opportunities and challenges of learning about the world in which we live God's world.

So at Jenison Christian School, the kindergarten foundation is built with a sold academic curriculum interwoven with a caring, faith-filled environment. It works well because teachers nurture the unique, God-given gifts of each student.

The elements that make up this firm foundation in both the half day every day program and the all day every day program include:

Music, Art, Gym, Computers, and Library

These special classes are an important part of the JCS school week and each becomes a popular activity for kindergarten students.

Bible

Bible stories are taught chronologically from Creation through Esther and include the life of Christ and His parables. Children also begin Bible memory to plant seeds of scripture that will remain with them throughout their lives.

Math

Children receive a sold introduction to math including numeration, counting, measuring, time, and fractions. They also learn skills in graphing and calculators.

Reading

This phonics-based learning begins with the recognition, sound and formation of the alphabet. It continues with vocabulary, rhyming, and basics of reading, as well as the opportunity to listen to plenty of stories.

Science

Both earth science (stones, weather, seasons, sky and light) and health science (five senses, eating and caring for yourself) are covered in JCS kindergarten classes.

Social Studies

Being a Christian in society brings responsibilities that kindergarten students begin to understand. Helping others around them, understanding the importance of family, and neighborhood safety are just a few of the areas covered throughout the school year.

Love

Jenison Christian is a community that reassures each student. These little ones are made in the image of God, and their education is the focal point and passion of the dedicated teachers and staff at JCS.
