"Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” - Matthew 19:14 I am fascinated by how many places the Word of God talks about children and families. Perhaps the very words of Jesus in Matthew 19:14 encompasses this Truth the best.
We must constantly ask as we raise the next generation, what is it that may hold our children back from the greatest Truth and Gift anyone could receive - a relationship founded in the complete forgiveness of our sins through a Savior who has Redeemed us from hell and out of love Calls us to COME to Him and have a relationship with our Creator and Sustainer. If you do not believe in this truth, you are still living a life that is eternally heart-broken. The greatest miracle performed by the only true God is that He gave His son out of love for the world so that who believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Let's help take away anything that would hinder children from learning and experiencing that Truth daily. I believe in Christ-centered education, for in it we help students understand God's Word and world. We teach them the importance of sharing that joy-filled Good News with a world filled with pain, sorrow, and broken hearts as they go out into the world using their gifts and talents in so many unique and excellent ways.
My first identity is Child of God, saved by Grace alone. My second most important identity is that I am a husband and father. I love them from the deepest place of my heart and learn daily from their love and trust in me. My two sons both have autism and limited verbal capabilities. Through their journey my heart has more fully learned the value of INCLUSION of people of all abilities in our schools and churches. I also have deeply loved being a part of this special Jenison Christian School community as principal and Head of School for over a decade now. I am a native to West Michigan and grew up on the west side of Grand Rapids. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Calvin College and also have a Master of Arts in school leadership from Central Michigan University.
  1. I am passionate about including the full body of Christ at JCS (1 Cor 12:12) through  individualized plans and resources for students with special needs and disabilities. My own two sons with autism have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams through their inclusion in Christian education and church programs.
  2. My dad and I co-founded a non-profit in Jenison named Sus Manos Gleaners; dehydrating local produce to send to starving people overseas.
  3. Ask any young student what my favorite color is and they likely will know, "It is whatever color my shirt is for the day. My favorite color changes nearly every day."
