At Jenison Christian, the elementary school provides a faith-based education for students in pre-kindergarten through 4th grade. Students explore God’s world and develop their gifts in a safe environment where they are encouraged, challenged, and valued.

Students have many opportunities to grow academically, spiritually, physically, musically, and artistically. Classes interact with each other and spend time together as they learn, nurture their faith, and build friendships. Clubs and activities are offered after school to provide additional opportunities for growth and enrichment.

Bible
We follow the CSI curriculum, Walking With God and His People, that helps students learn about the Bible’s history, structure, and theme. The curriculum is designed to help students understand God’s Word and live a life of faith and obedience. Students encounter Bible stories in their geographical, historical and cultural context.

Literacy
Bookworms is a reading and writing curriculum for grades K–5 that uses research-based practices aligned to the Science of Reading to help students improve their reading and writing skills. Through our literacy instruction we expose students to a high volume of full-length, deeply engaging books to build knowledge.

Math
We build a deep understanding of math through an inquiry-based math curriculum Math Expressions. Our students make sense of math by exploring, discussing, and demonstrating their understanding of key concepts and are provided opportunities to look deeper at the problems they are solving and choose their own path to answers. Our desire is that we equip students with skills that will take them far beyond the math classroom.

Science
Students explore God’s creation and build wonder through inquiry-based learning using the FOSS Next Generation science curriculum, which aligns to the Next Generation Science Standards. The students participate in authentic scientific investigation through which they analyze data to build knowledge about scientific concepts. Students actively form and reform ideas to better understand the world that God created.

Social Studies
Our social studies curriculum supports students in understanding their role as disciples in God’s world. In the lower elementary grades, students explore social environments by examining interactions between themselves, others, families, schools, and local communities. There is a strong focus on how God calls us to serve others in our communities.
In the upper elementary, students study Michigan's history to understand how people arrived in the United States and how early settlers built communities and culture. Students explore U.S. history, focusing on the geographic, economic, and governmental factors that shaped the nation. Through the lens of history, students gain insights into God’s story and learn about themselves, humanity, and their role in the world over time.

Special Courses
Each week students' learning is enriched with special classes that include physical education, music, Spanish, art and library.
